Mira is also part of a small writing group at school where she learns more about herself and her fellow students. A lovely cast of characters, I love the diversity contained in the group and a beautiful story.

I read this book while I was living abroad in London last year. It is not widely available in the US, but it should be. The story has so many different elements that young girls can relate to. Coming to terms with the loss of a family member, dealing with siblings, discovering your first crush, dealing with your changing body, just to name a few. All of these issues are seamlessly interwoven into a touching and funny story in such a relateable way. I highly recommend this book for girls ages 11 to 14.
I'm twelve and have just read 'Artichoke Hearts', I would highly recommend this book to any teenage girl. The author writes in a very unique way which I love and her book is very relatable especially for those who have lost a member of family or have a first crush- but it is not made to teach you about these things, just to remind you that other people have these problems too. The storyline of this book is also excellent as it simply follows the life of Mira Levenson who overcomes many obstacles, especially her grandmas illness and her changing relationship with her best friend and family.
Overall I loved reading this book and would recommend it to any girl with a creative mind!
P.S. I have just bought her second book 'Jasmine Skies' as I enjoyed this one so much!!
